Unicef warns of “epidemic” of childhood malnutrition

    Poor nutrition is responsible for 5.6 million childhood deaths each year, and more than a quarter of all children age under 5 years in developing countries are underweight, a report published this week by the United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef) says.

    Unicef claims that the world is failing children because the proportion of children aged under 5 who are underweight has scarcely fallen since 1990 and malnutrition remains a global epidemic contributing to more than half of all child deaths.
