No progress in reducing childhood obesity despite increased awareness, report says

Childhood obesity is increasing and becoming a serious health problem, but the US government has cancelled a Centers for Disease Control programme called Verb, which had produced documented successes, says the US Institute of Medicine, a part of the National Academies of Sciences.
The CDC's programme was a five year social marketing campaign to promote physical activity in children aged 9-13 years. Evaluation showed that the programme had positive results, but funding was discontinued and will end this month.
