Cancer risk is not raised in children of nuclear workers

Overall incidence of cancer and leukaemia in children of nuclear workers is similar to that expected in the general population. The nuclear industry family study (pp 1443 and 1453) examined offspring of workers at three nuclear establishments. Although the study found evidence of an increased risk of leukaemia in children whose fathers were exposed to relatively high levels of ionising radiation before their child's conception, reliable conclusions cannot be drawn because of the small number of cases involved.
