Patients are equally satisfied with outpatient and day case hysteroscopy

Outpatient investigation of abnormal uterine bleeding is comparatively new. On p 279 Kremer et al describe a randomised controlled trial of outpatient investigation of women with abnormal uterine bleeding. The data from 100 patients were reviewed. Patients in the outpatient group recovered preoperative fitness more quickly than those in the day case group and were fully mobile more quickly. Overall, 78% of patients considered that the pain from outpatient hysteroscopy was less than that usually experienced during menstruation. Patient satisfaction was similar in both groups. Thirteen of 16 patients in the outpatient group who had also had day case hysteroscopy would choose outpatient hysteroscopy again.
