Norethisterone might be being used as a lifestyle drug

Norethisterone is used, among other things, for postponing menstruation. On p 291 Shakespeare et al use prescribing data to argue that it may be being used for this purpose when women go on holiday. Against a background of declining baseline prescribing of the drug in Oxfordshire (possibly because general practitioners are changing their treatment of menorrhagia) they show peaks around July each year from 1995 to 1998. A similar pattern exists for England in 1996-9.
