UK government denies that smallpox vaccination plans have fallen short of target

The Department of Health and the Ministry of Defence have rejected suggestions that Britain's plans to vaccinate selected emergency workers against smallpox have fallen short of their targets because of adverse reactions to the vaccine.
The Sunday Times reported last weekend that Nigel Lightfoot, head of the Health Protection Agency's emergency response team, told a Geneva conference on bioterrorism that he had been among those who experienced side effects, including headache and fever.
