All original research articles and selected other articles will be freely
available on bmj.com and accessible from the moment of publication.
The full text of all other articles will require a subscription for the first
12 months, after which they will be freely accessible. Abstract and
extract views of these articles will remain freely accessible as will
other website content and functions.

Access to bmj.com will remain free to the following user groups:

• BMA members (including student members)
• BMJ personal print subscribers
• Users from developing countries (see www.bmjjournals.com/subscriptions/countries.shtml)

What this means for you

BMA members need to register on the BMA’s website to obtain a username and password. They will need to use this BMA username and password each time they visit bmj.com.
Personal subscribers to the print BMJ These subscriptions include free access to bmj.com but need to be activated first. Locate your customer number from your journal wrapper and click here to activate.
Library subscribers to the print BMJ will need to change to either a combined print and online subscription or to an online only subscription. Click here for more details.
Users from resource poor countries can freely access all the content on bmj.com (check list)
Everyone elsewill need either to:

Definition of relevant Full Time Equivalents (FTEs):

• Academic Institutions: Total number of medical faculty (academic staff and students) and researchers.
• Hospitals: Total number of clinicians, pharmacists and researchers (excluding nurses).
• Corporate institutions: Total number of researchers and medical information employees.
• Government institutions, regulatory agencies, medical societies and all others: Total number of professionally qualified staff.

Full Time Equivalent bands are set as follows:

• Small 1 - 400 FTE
• Medium 401 - 1,500
• Large (+X-Large) 1,501+
