Women's organisations and privacy experts are alarmed about the Canadian Pharmacists Association's advice to its members to collect and store sensitive personal information before dispensing the emergency contraceptive levonorgestrel (Plan B).
Publication of the advice in articles in CMAJ (2005;173:1435-6) and the Toronto Star (2 December, p 1) has led to considerable publicity. Both articles focused on the pharmacists' association's advice to its members to collect a woman's name, address, telephone number, and details about her sexual activities before dispensing Plan B.
