EDITOR—The medical and health problems of South Asia, particularly those affecting children and women, are very well known. The burgeoning population with the resulting grinding poverty may be the root of various ills and is now increasingly responsible for child abuse and neglect and child labour. Illiteracy and ignorance are widespread and contribute substantially to the prevalence of many preventable diseases. …
